Betta Care

This page is dedicated to those who are new to the betta world as well as those who are familiar with them.

To care for your betta, you must have love, understanding and patience.

Love - make sure that you buy the bettas that you like or love the most since this will encourage you to take better care of them.

Understanding - make sure that before you purchase bettas on our website or at a store, you do the proper research and learn all you can about them.

Patience - make sure that you take time to care for your betta.  Good things come to those who have good patience.

With that said, below is a brief overview on how bettas should be taken care of.

Water Condition:  use only drinking water or filtered (reverse osmosis) water.  Do not use tap water or chemically treated water since chemicals are invisible to the human eye but can kill your betta.  If you keep your betta in anything less than a 1/2 gallon jar, you will need to change 100% of the water at least twice a week.  If your betta is in anything over a 1/2 gallon jar, you will need to change at least 50% of the water at least once per week.

Temperature:  your betta functions best at around 70° F - 82° F.  Keep your betta bowl warm by using a heater.  No heater is needed if your house or room temperature is between 70 and 80.  Keeping your betta warm will simulate its tropical living environment.

Food:  feed your bettas twice a day and do not overfeed.  Remove uneaten food immediately, since uneaten foods can cloud the water, release ammonia and cause bacterial infections which can kill your betta.  Recommended foods are Betta Bio-Gold, Freeze Dried Blood Worm and brine shrimp.  Try to feed your bettas live foods once a week.  Feeding live foods will stimulate your bettas to chase and hunt for food and exercise its swimming and hunting skills.  Live brine shrimp can be purchased at a local pet store.  We recommend that you do not feed your bettas live food more than once per week since live foods contain high levels of bacteria.
